Upgrading a computer or migrating to a new operating system should be a positive experience, not one resulting in end-user downtime due to endless file backups, file transfers and setting reconfigurations. With K2000 user state migration, you can deploy user-specific files and settings along with an operating system and applications, reducing the risk of losing critical information. At the same time, corporate compliance directives mandate that certain data not be stored on company computers, like personal music and video files. Migration templates let you specify precisely what data will be transferred. When users turn on their new computer or operating system for the first time, the information they, and your company, want to retain from their old computer or operating system will already be there.
All captured user states are stored in the K2000 centralized deployment library. Administrators can quickly access the appropriate user states to place alongside a Network OS Install or image through a convenient graphical menu. Administrators no longer have to worry about carrying around external hard drives or other removable media to capture and load a user’s files and settings. Whether a computer needs to accommodate one or multiple users, the K2000 allows it to be easily provisioned.
Migration templates allow you to specify what data types will be migrated along with what resources will be migrated. You can exclude items by file types, like sound and video files, specify users you don’t want migrated, and even exclude specific parts of user folders, like Shared Music or Shared Pictures.
With the click of a button, the K2000 allows you to capture or load user states. K2000 user state migration removes complicated command line syntax from the equation, allowing administrators of all skill-levels to quickly learn and utilize the feature. The intuitive graphical interface of user state migration follows the KACE philosophy of making powerful features easy-to-use.
Usually migrating a user’s files involves booting a computer in its old operating system, before you deploy a new OS. Offline migration lets you do migration from a pre-install task on your K2000 as part of the OS deployment. Files and settings are recovered automatically, using a migration template you specify, and users can be restored automatically after the OS deployment is done.
