How to create a KBE pre-boot environment

Creating a Windows K2000 Boot Environment.

Here are the steps to build out the new KBE boot environment:

Do the following only after you ensure that your K2000 appliance has been updated to at least version 3.2:

1) Go to 'Library' > 'Overview' > 'Download Media Manager'.

2) Select 'Download for Windows' (This will require .NET 2.0) and select to open when propmpted

3) Download the WAIK for windows 7: -- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=696DD665-9F76-4177-A811-39C26D3B3B34&displaylang=en

4) Install the WAIK onto the Windows system.

5) Open the Media Manager on the Windows system then:

b) Input K2000 hostname or IP address

c) Enter your drivers/restore password in the "Host Login Password" field if running the 3.4 media manager

Creating a Mac K2000 Boot Environment

This process requires the use of a Mac OS install media. The latest version of the media you can find the better. As an example, with 10.6 you want to fine the highest 10.6 media you can, like 10.6.8. Mac KBEs need to be created on the same operating system for which you are trying to create a KBE. For instance, a 10.6 KBE needs to be created on a machine with 10.6, a 10.7 KBE needs to be created on a machine with 10.7.

If a new model Mac is acquired, you should build a new environment on this machine for successful netbooting.

1) Go to 'Library' > 'Overview' > 'Download Media Manager'.

2) Click on the link "Download for Mac OS X"

3) Unzip the Media Manager if it didn't do it for you automatically

4) Click "Open" if you get a warning about the K2000 Media Manager being an application downloaded from the internet.

5) Click on the Create Netboot Image tab.

6) Enter the K2000 IP Address or hostname

7) Give your KBE a name

8) Browse to the media you have for creating the netboot environment

9) Enter the password you would like to use to login to the netboot environment and then confirm this password.

10) Click on "Start Build" to create the netboot environment and upload it to the K2000. You will be required to use admin credentials of the local machine to create this environment.

11) After the upload is complete and the K2000 has processed it, you will need to go to K2000 webui under Settings & Maintenance | General Settings. Click on Edit and set this new environment to be default for Mac OS X.

**Netbooting does require the Netboot Service to be started under Settings & Maintenance | Network.
