We are seeing a rash of K2000 appliances that are running out of hard drive space. This is a dangerous situation because in many cases all we can do is enter the K2000 appliance and remove images from your system to recover the space needed to get the K2000 appliance up and running again. In some cases we have had to ask people to send their K2000 appliance back to us so that we can resolve the issue. This means you are with out the unit until we can repair it and get it back to you.
Here are somethings that you can do to mitigate your risk and repair the issue your self.
- Check to make sure there are no files in the restore share. In some cases you can move these file to another server. Once the K2000 appliance is rebooted the web UI is repaired.
- Temporarily move all drivers from the drivers share and then reboot. Be sure to leave the auto-generated folder structure (OS folders) in tact. Only remove the driver files from the sub-folders.
- Export rarly used images to another server for safe keeping and then remove them from the K2000 appliance and perform a purge from the Server Maintenance tab.
- Always make sure that SSH root access is enabled in the security page under K2000 settings and maintenance. This will allow us to get into your K2000 appliance for the purpose of cleaning out the unwanted files. In many cases all we have to do is purge the K2000 appliance and reboot to resolve the issue.
- Connect your K2000 appliance to an IP KVM. In the event that you can not leave SSH enabled, we can still perform the same function as above by taking control of one of your computers and connected to this type of KVM.
- Finally, keep tabs on the amount of hard drive space you have left and take action to ensure that there is at least 25% of the space available.
