Royal Liver Counts the Ways IT Saves Time and Money Using KACE Appliances
Historic UK Financial Firm Leverages KBOX for its Green Capabilities, Saving $120,000 a Year in Energy Savings
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – September 17, 2007 – KACE, the leading provider of systems management appliances, today announced its award-winning, appliance-based technology is being successfully used by one of the United Kingdom’s oldest financial firms, Royal Liver, to help manage green initiatives and important internal and external company assets.
Originally established in 1850, Royal Liver prides itself on responsible business practice and innovation and chose KACE to help establish itself as a leader in green computing. Offering instant value and tangible ROI, the KBOX deployed in less than an hour and saves Royal Liver upwards of $120,000 yearly in energy usage savings.
“We selected KACE primarily for its affordability, energy-saving capabilities, and rich functionality,” said Mark McCann, IS Customer Support Manager at Royal Liver. “After deploying the KBOX Systems Management Appliance, we realized its extensive toolset could also manage our IT assets with extreme detail, as well as manage our physical assets outside of the IT department.”
Royal Liver sought out a tool that could manage overnight shutdown of the 600 PCs at its headquarter office, as well as allowing important security patches and system maintenance to take place. KBOX provides both through its unique combination of easy-to-use configuration management and Wake-on-LAN (WOL) capabilities. A robust set of configuration management capabilities allows the KBOX to automatically and safely power down machines that are unused for a period of time to conserve energy. WOL then allows these same machines to be automatically powered on for scheduled after-hours maintenance or remote access, if needed.
“We are proud of the KBOX Systems Management Appliance’s green capabilities and have developed our technology with those benefits in mind,” said Rob Meinhardt, co-founder and CEO of KACE. “We continually align our product development with ‘being green’ and the KBOX is quickly gaining prominence in the industry for its innovative energy saving capabilities.”
Royal Liver’s experienced IT department teamed with Ambien Technology Ltd, one of the leading providers of software management solutions in the UK, to evaluate KACE alongside Altiris and Microsoft SMS to see how each met their unique needs.
“KACE set itself apart by offering a unique blend of rich functionality, time and cost savings, and ease-of-use – all aspects of the KBOX – that the competition could not touch. We have received extremely positive feedback from all of our partners using the KBOX. Many report the KACE appliance has more functionality than they really need, yet is still considerably less expensive than competitors so something for them to ‘grow in to’,” said John Jones, account director at Ambien.
KACE’s KBOX family of appliances saves its customers both time and money. Systems managers from large and medium enterprises are often forced to wear many hats throughout the day to work on a myriad of IT functions. KACE helps consolidate these functions providing a single box for all of their projects while delivering easy-to-use, comprehensive systems management that is affordable. The KBOX Systems Management Appliances automate routine and complex IT maintenance tasks for end-point nodes on a network, while the KBOX Systems Deployment Appliances provide centralized provisioning and remote system recovery.
