Open Virtualization Format Support Brings Added Simplicity and Affordability to Systems Management

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – June 2, 2009 – KACE™, the leading systems management appliance company, today announced that its award-winning Virtual KBOX™ Appliances now support Open Virtualization Format (OVF), making the appliances even easier to deploy and manage. Opening the doors for even more IT organizations to realize the ease-of-use and cost-savings benefits associated with Virtual KBOX, OVF support allows the appliances to run not only on VMware, but on other leading virtual infrastructures as well.

OVF, an open industry standard developed by the Desktop Management Taskforce (DMTF), was designed to simplify the deployment of virtual machines. OVF enables efficient, flexible and secure distribution of enterprise software, facilitating the mobility of virtual machines, and giving customers vendor and platform independence. The standard is supported by leading virtualization vendors including VMware, Microsoft, Citrix, HP and IBM.

“We continuously strive to innovate across our market-leading systems management and deployment appliances to offer time and cost savings to the widest array of IT organizations possible,” said Marty Kacin, co-founder and CTO for KACE. “Supporting OVF is a homerun for KACE customers because it allows organizations to get the most out of their virtual infrastructure investment. KACE has brought yet another level of maturity to virtual appliances and, in doing so, is once again distancing us from the competition and continuing to lead the virtual appliance market.”

KACE’s Virtual KBOX uses OVF to automatically embed configuration information, such as virtual processors and memory settings, into a single metadata file eliminating the need for manual administration. This process allows organizations to quickly deploy a full, systems management solution onto any virtual infrastructures supporting OVF. The Virtual KBOX with OVF support is available immediately. KACE Virtual KBOX appliance pricing starts at $4,500 and includes support for the first 100 nodes.

“Distributing the Virtual KACE Appliances in OVF standard formats will make the Virtual KBOX even easier to deploy,” said Andi Mann, vice president of Research at Enterprise Management Associates (EMA). “More of the setup is bundled in the appliance itself, the standards-based approach will make it more portable, and with broad vendor support for OVF either already available or promised from VMware, IBM, Dell, Microsoft, Sun, Citrix and others, it will be compatible with more environments.”

KACE saves its customers both time and money. Systems managers are increasingly forced to wear many hats throughout the day to work on a myriad of IT functions. KACE helps consolidate these functions by providing a single appliance for all projects, while delivering easy-to-use, comprehensive systems management that is affordable. The appliances fulfill all of an organization’s systems management needs, from initial computer deployment to ongoing management and retirement.
